BIO

Pierre Saint Blancat was born in May 1968 in an art and painting-oriented family. His mother was the small niece of the master glassmaker Louis Saint Blancat and his father painted in the workshop of Jean Germain Jacob, where he met the last great painters of that era. From both, Benoit took a first and last name to make an artistic label.

Pierre Saint Blancat created a company at the age of 19 for custom-made watches for large French companies. He extended his firm to Prague, a city he fell in love with in 1990 and then met his wife. At the same time, he got a master's degree in monetary theory, another in finance, and a P.h.D. in economics.

After the start of the diplomatic career of his wife and the birth of their first son, Pierre Saint Blancat decided to devote himself to the family and art.

Emblematic of Pierre Saint Blancat's work, “Humanity” was presented in New York at the headquarters of the United Nations in 2017. The juxtaposition of artist’s body parts on a dissociated set of canvas, of which the golden backgrounds emerge when in contact of these shadows, is the fruit of research begun 20 years ago to seize the decisive moment described by Malraux, where creation is not the illustration of a revelation anymore, but the intrusion of the artist on the creation. The golden backgrounds of icons and the well-constructed landscapes of the Middle Age painters explode. The face and flesh of the artist are dissonances that sign a new beginning of painting. Rembrandt paints bloody flesh; Gericault paints the Raft looking at limbs collected in hospitals.

Since 2015, Pierre Saint Blancat gets inspiration from a daily practice of photography. He currently lives in London.
